[PIO] The Minister of State for European Affairs concluded her visit to Slovenia

The working visit of the Deputy Minister of State for European Affairs, Ms Marilena Rauna, to Ljubljana, Slovenia, during which she had separate meetings with the Deputy Minister of State for European Affairs at the Prime Minister's Office, Mr. Igor Mally and with Mr Marko Štucin, Deputy Minister of State for European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting with Mr. Mally was briefed by the Slovenian side on best practices in relation to the Presidency of the Council, in view of the forthcoming assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) by the Republic of Cyprus in 2026.

The discussion with Mr. The discussion with Mr Štucin revolved around issues on the European agenda, with emphasis on the enlargement process, the Future of Europe, as well as the issue of the reform of the Union.

Views were also exchanged on EU-Turkey relations, in view of the relevant discussions at the European Council in April 2024. In this context, and given Slovenia's participation as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Ms Rauna also briefed on the efforts made by President Nicos Christodoulides to resume negotiations for a settlement of the Cyprus problem on the basis of the agreed framework.

The Deputy Minister also informed about the sharp increase in illegal migration flows to Cyprus by sea and the need for an effective contribution of the EU in finding immediate solutions to address the problem.
