Communities' representatives expressed their satisfaction with the revised housing plans and allowances for mountainous areas, Interior Minister Nikos Nouris said today in his first visit, which is part of a series of visits to communities.

The Minister of Interior, accompanied by the Commissioner for the Development of Mountain Communities Mr. Kostas Hambiaouris, the Director General of the Ministry of Interior Mr. Kostas Constantinou and other officials of the Ministry, and in the presence of the President of the Union of Cyprus Communities Mr. Andreas Kitromilidis, informed the Communities of the area of Solea and Marathasa about the revised housing plans of the Ministry of Interior for rural, mountainous, marginal and disadvantaged areas, as well as about the benefits for mountainous and remote areas announced on 21 March 2022, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Mr.

In his statements, the Minister of Interior said that "we are starting today from Solia the effort to inform our communities in person regarding the Government's housing policy and of course the subsidy policy".

"I had the opportunity to talk to and brief the community leaders of the area on our housing plans and to convey the message that, as we had stated last year when we were also here, and we listened and listened to the concerns of the residents and their 'wants', most of which we have implemented with the housing policy, so today, together and simultaneously with the presentation, I am pleased to say that they have expressed their satisfaction with the new housing policy."

He went on to say that "it remains our commitment that we will continue together with the development projects that the Office of the Commissioner of Mountain Community Development is promoting, advancing and advancing."

After expressing his special thanks to the Commissioner for the effort, he affirmed that "we will continue to strive to remove the problems that our mountain areas primarily face."

"And these are none other than the deforestation of the mountain areas and addressing the phenomenon of urbanization," he added.

"I think that with similarly generous plans, with the tripling of the Government's expenditure for this year and the even higher budget for next year, we will be able, and we have the right to be optimistic, that we will achieve even better results," the Interior Minister said.

For his part, the Commissioner for Upland Community Development said that the new housing plan is much richer and more generous than the previous one. He noted that the Minister and his colleagues have listened to the concerns of residents and have tried, within the framework of the new housing policy and plans, to meet the demands and provide solutions.

"The new housing plan in conjunction with the development projects being promoted through the Mountain Communities Development Strategy, under the direction of the President himself, augurs a bright future for our mountain areas," the Commissioner said."

In his own remarks, the President of the Union of Communities expressed his satisfaction, thanking the Minister and his team for the new housing policy announced for 2022. He said that "yes, lavish projects are now being given, which can be used by young couples for our upland communities."

As the Minister himself has said, the President said, there will certainly need to be more projects that will retain and attract young couples to stay in these communities.

"We hope that soon we will have more announcements about these additional actions that the Government will take, so that we can keep our mountainous region alive, because the place really needs it," Kitromilides said.

The community leader of Galata, Mr. Costas Kleanthous said that "the commitment made by the Minister of Interior last year is becoming a reality that he will listen to the communities and improve these plans, which have mainly provided for the communities of the mountainous areas. They are attractive plans, which we invite the inhabitants to follow and make the most of."

He concluded by thanking the President himself for his special interest in both mountainous and marginal and disadvantaged areas. "We expect that other projects supporting these plans will be announced so that we can truly revitalize the mountainous countryside," the community leader concluded.
