The most important issue discussed during the meeting, he added, was that of the building facilities. We are, he noted, in the process of preparing for the launch of tenders for the construction of a new building. "Pending the construction of the new building, the Ministry of Health will take appropriate actions to upgrade the existing facilities," the Minister added.

The Minister also referred to World Food Safety Day, which is celebrated tomorrow, June 7, stressing that the State Services will continue to take all necessary measures to safeguard the safety and quality of food reaching consumers.

Asked about current reports that speak of an agreement with a private individual/donor for the construction of a new pediatric oncology clinic next to Makarios Hospital, Damianos said that meetings have been held on this issue. "It is something we are studying, we are obviously very positive, but at this stage we are not in a position to make any announcement," he added.

Asked to comment on a report that public sector doctors intend to go on strike over the issue of the financial incentives provided by OKYPY in addition to their basic salary, he noted that what is paramount is to ensure industrial peace. "This is an issue which is being handled by the OCYP, meetings will be held within the next week and if our intervention is requested, we will assist in any way we can to resolve the disputes that have arisen," he concluded.
