[PIO] The Minister of Environment went to Nairobi for the 6th Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Dr Maria Panayiotou, visited Nairobi, Kenya yesterday to participate in the 6th Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) on "Effective, and inclusive sustainable actions to address climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution", taking place between 26 February - 1 March at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) headquarters.

The Minister will participate in the high-level sessions of the Summit, which is attended by more than 3,000 delegates from 174 countries, including 123 at ministerial level. The Summit will address international environmental policy and governance issues, sustainable development and the implementation of the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as multilateral environmental agreements, with a view to taking effective, inclusive and sustainable multilateral action to address global environmental challenges, including climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution and deforestation. At the end of the session, Ministers are expected to adopt the UNEA-6 Ministerial Declaration.

The Minister will return to Cyprus on 2 March.
