[PIO] The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment will participate in the EU Council of Agriculture and Fisheries Ministers

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Dr Maria Panayiotou, will participate in the Council of Agriculture and Fisheries Ministers of the European Union (EU) which will take place in Brussels on Tuesday, 26 March 2024.

The Council will discuss the package of measures proposed by the European Commission to address the current crisis in the agricultural sector. In particular, there will be an exchange of views on short-term measures to simplify the implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy to reduce the administrative burden on farmers, as well as the proposed measures to strengthen the position of farmers in the food production and distribution chain.

The Council will also discuss the market situation following the invasion in Ukraine and the results of the conference on: "Call for concern for animal welfare" held in Brussels on 29 January 2024.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers will be preceded by a working dinner, which the Minister will host for the Ministers of Agriculture of the Member States participating in the Euro-Mediterranean Agreement-MED9, with the aim of exchanging views and recording converging positions on maintaining the European Union's food security and ensuring satisfactory incomes for our farmers.
