[PIO] The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment goes to Luxembourg

Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Dr Maria Panayiotou is travelling to Luxembourg to participate in the Environment Council, which will take place today, 17 June.

The agenda of the Council, which is being held under the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), includes important environmental issues. In particular, EU environment ministers are expected to put forward for adoption the regulation on nature restoration, which Cyprus supports. In addition, Ministers will be invited to adopt conclusions on the mid-term review of the 8th Environment Action Programme.

In addition, orientation debates will follow on the following issues. [*]Eco-claims Directive, which aims to help consumers make more sustainable and informed decisions about products or services. [*]Soil Monitoring Directive, which aims to put the EU on track to achieve healthy soils by 2050 by addressing the risks of soil pollution to health and the environment. [*]Managing climate risks.

Dr Panagiotou returns to Cyprus on Tuesday, 18 June.
