The House of Representatives now has a properly designed and equipped breastfeeding room, thus supporting breastfeeding employees and visitors of the building and thus contributing to the encouragement of breastfeeding.

The room is air-conditioned, preserves the privacy of both mother and child, and has a breastfeeding chair and a place to pump and store milk. It was designed and constructed next to a kitchen area, in accordance with the requirements for the creation and operation of such rooms.

In a statement, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs Anita Demetriou, said that the House of Representatives demonstrates in practice its sensitivity towards breastfeeding mothers and infants and highlights the need for a general culture of breastfeeding. Moreover, this initiative, said Ms Demetriou, is part of the promotion of key issues concerning working mothers and the balancing of personal and professional life of women.

As the President noted, the Legislative Assembly will continue to support any initiative that contributes to conditions that are more humane, more functional and more friendly to working mothers, who are called upon to respond to the multiple roles and demands of modern times.
