Head of the Cypriot delegation to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), Mr Aristos Damianou, met today with a delegation of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Cyprus (APPG-CYP) on an official visit to Cyprus.

The delegation is headed by the newly elected Chair of the Group, Conservative Party MP Mrs Caroline Nokes and also includes the Group's Honorary Chair, Conservative MP Sir Roger Gale and Labour Party MPs Mr Fabian Hamilton (Vice-Chair of the APPG-CYP), Mr Bambos Charalambous (Honorary Secretary of the APPG-CYP) and Mrs Paulette Hamilton (Member). The delegation was accompanied by the President of the National Federation of Cypriots of the United Kingdom, Mr. Christos Karaolis.

Mr. Damianou referred to the long-standing cooperation between the House of Representatives and the British Parliament, which remains important, especially after the UK's withdrawal from the European Union. The Cypriot MP underlined the emphasis that the House therefore places on its participation in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and the corresponding cooperation that exists with the British Branch of the Association, through its institutions.

The President of the APPG Mrs. Caroline Nokes expressed the will to further develop relations between the two Parliaments, as well as the Group's commitment to an in-depth briefing on the Cyprus issue within the British Parliament, particularly in view of the upcoming elections in the UK. The British MPs also briefed Mr Damianou on the progress of a bill in the British Parliament on the change in the legal status of the CPA.

They also exchanged views on the actions being developed within the Commonwealth Network of Women MPs, particularly in areas such as gender equality and human rights.
