The portfolio of the Environment Commissioner's Office was taken over today by the new Environment Commissioner Ms Antonia Theodosiou, during a special ceremony held at the Environment Commissioner's Office.

During the handover ceremony, the outgoing Commissioner congratulated the new Commissioner on her appointment and wished her success in her new duties. She said that she was leaving the Office with mixed emotions as it was an Office which she loved and for which she had worked with zeal and enthusiasm from the very first moment and that she had enjoyed every day in it.

For her part, the new Environment Commissioner thanked Dr Panagiotou for taking over the portfolio and said that she would carefully study the achievements of the Office during the outgoing Commissioner's tenure and that she would seek meetings with previous Commissioners to learn about their experience in the Office. He congratulated Dr Panayiotou on her appointment as Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment. "I am particularly pleased about the agreement of close cooperation between the Office of the Environment Commissioner and the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment on matters within their areas of responsibility, a cooperation which I have already discussed with the Director General of Environment," said Mrs Theodosiou and wished them all the best in their common goals.
