The Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Andreas Kakouris, is travelling today to Geneva, where tomorrow, Tuesday 30 April 2024, he will present, as Head of the Cyprus Delegation, the Report of Cyprus on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).
The Universal Periodic Review is a mechanism of the Human Rights Council (HRC). Under this mechanism, all states of the United Nations submit every 4 or 5 years a national report on the human rights situation in the country. Under current practice, the report records the progress made in implementing the recommendations accepted by the State under review at the time of the previous presentation of the report.
During his stay in Geneva, Mr. Kakouris will also have successive meetings with the United Nations Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights Ms. Nada Al Nashif and the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Ms. Mirjana Spoljaric Egger.
Mr. Kakouris returns to Cyprus on Wednesday, 1 May 2024.
