The Deputy Minister of Culture, Dr Vasiliki Kassianidou, is leaving today for the Council of Ministers of Culture, which will take place in Belgium.

As part of her presence there, the Deputy Minister will participate in an informal working dinner on 13 May in Antwerp, where she will discuss how culture can help strengthen the common European cultural identity, which is being tested by recent geopolitical challenges, and how cultural institutions and new strategies could help.

At the Council of Ministers to be held the following day in Brussels, Culture Ministers will have the opportunity to discuss how AI is being applied to the cultural and creative sector and how EU policies and programmes could help cultural and creative actors to exploit the potential of AI.

In the margins of the Council, Culture Ministers are also expected to discuss measures to strengthen each country's audiovisual sector. Under the programme, all Ministries of Culture of the EU Member States were invited to submit at least one cultural heritage asset digitised in three-dimensional (3D) format, resulting in the creation of a pan-European collection of iconic and high quality 3D cultural heritage assets. The monuments to be presented by the Deputy Minister on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus are the Paphos Castle, the Neolithic settlement of Choirokoitia and a fishing boat which is an excellent example of Greek maritime tradition.

The Deputy Minister returns to Cyprus on May 15, 2024.
