Regarding the procedure carried out for the recruitment of the new forest firefighters/fireguards, the Forestry Department informs the public about the procedures followed for filling the positions.
Following the approval of one hundred (100) positions by the Council of Ministers on July 3, 2024, the Department of Public Administration and Personnel proceeded to release the positions on July 5. Immediately the Department of Forests, on the instructions of the Director, issued a notice on July 8, inviting those who met the criteria to apply for the Forest Stations and Fire Stations listed in the notice. It is noted that this was preceded by the Department of Forestry's announcement on June 17, 2024 for the recruitment of another eighteen (18) Forest Fire Stations and Fire Wardens.
Eligible applicants were:
- persons holding a Certificate of Training from the Cyprus Forestry College in Forest Firefighting or equivalent qualification,
- persons with at least six (6) months of documented professional training in forest firefighting and/or wildland firefighting from a recognized educational institution/center,
- persons with documented experience of at least six (6) months within the last five (5) years in fighting forest and/or wildland fires. If this experience was gained in an agency other than the Forestry Department (such as the Fire Department, the Game Fund and the British Banks Fire Department) then a certificate from the agency in which they worked is required,
- hourly Forestry Department personnel who have not worked in the Forestry Department in the previous year.
At the same time the Forestry Department announced the dates and venues of the physical test, which were as follows. [*]For the candidates of the Troodos Forestry District, on Thursday 25/07/2024 and Friday 26/07/2024 at 7:00 a.m. at the Forestry Station of Platanias. [*]For the candidates of the Forestry District of Nicosia, Larnaca, Famagusta on Monday 29/07/2024 and Tuesday 30/07/2024 at 7:00 a.m. at (Stavrovouni) near Kornou Forestry Station. [/LIST]

At the end of the physical procedure, the Evaluation Committee then proceeded to an oral interview with all candidates.
At the end of the physical test and the oral interview, the Selection Board prepared the lists of all the candidates according to their overall marks. The Commission selected from the list of successful candidates for recruitment those who scored the highest marks until all the posts were filled, as and when required by the service, while the rest remained on a waiting list and in case any new posts became vacant or were approved in that year, they were recruited in the order of merit.
On July 31, 2024 the Department of Forestry issued a notice announcing the new forest firefighter/fire wardens hired. It set their start date as Monday, August 5, 2024.
