[PIO] The Commissioner for Rural Payments met with the Secretary General of AKEL

In the context of a series of meetings held by the Commissioner for Rural Payments Mr Andreas Kyprianou with various groups and organised bodies, a meeting was held yesterday at AKEL's offices with the party's General Secretary Mr Stefanos Stefanou and the Provincial Secretary of the Union of Cypriot Farmers (UCA) of Nicosia Mr. Thomas Thomas.

The Commissioner said that the Agency's remit is to protect European and national funds, to ensure accurate and timely payments, to maximise the service to our farming community and to provide diverse support to the wider Cypriot countryside.

Among other things, the two sides focused on the joint effort to support, assist and understand the rural world of Cyprus, so that the Cypriot rural economy can further flourish and the countryside can come alive again.

Mr. Stefanou thanked the Commissioner and expressed the support of AKEL and the EPP for both him and the Agency, stating that they would stand by him for any assistance needed for the good of the Cypriot farmer.
