A six-week online training on "Freedom of Expression" is organised by the Council of Europe (CoE) in cooperation with the Academy of the Legal Service of the Republic of Cyprus and the Cyprus Bar Association. The training, which will be attended by both lawyers of the Republic and private lawyers, is part of the implementation of the CoE's online training programme called HELP (Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals) by the Legal Service and the PCA.

The training will start on Friday, 12 April 2024, at the seminar room of the Nicosia Bar Association. During the opening event, there will be introductory presentations to the training by HELP Project staff, as well as a series of presentations and workshops by professors and certified trainers.

The main objective of the HELP Programme is to assist CoE member states to strengthen the knowledge and skills of their legal professionals (lawyers, judges, prosecutors) in relation to international (CoE) and European (EU) human rights standards, and how these can be applied in practice in the performance of their duties. The Freedom of Expression training is specifically designed to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to understand the European principles and regulations on freedom of expression and, in addition, seeks to facilitate the effective implementation of Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights at national level.
