[PIO] The Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in Greece presented his credentials

The new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Greece, Mr Stavros Avgoustidis, presented his credentials to the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mrs Katerina Sakellaropoulou, yesterday, Friday, 13 October 2023, during an official ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Athens.

In presenting his credentials, Ambassador Avgoustidis conveyed the cordial greetings of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Katerina Skeletopoulosopoulos, to the President of the Republic of Greece.

Ambassador Avgoustidis added that in the exercise of his duties, he will focus on the further strengthening and qualitative upgrading of the fraternal relations between Cyprus and Greece, in order to serve the common national interests of the two countries.

On this occasion, he conveyed the President's invitation to the President of the Hellenic Republic to pay an official visit to Cyprus.

In addition, the Ambassador briefed Mrs Sakellaropoulou on the efforts of the President of the Republic for the resumption of the talks and underlined the importance of continuing the close coordination between Nicosia and Athens, as well as the support of the international community in the efforts to resolve the Cyprus problem, within the agreed framework of the United Nations and on the basis of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Accepting the credentials, the President of the Hellenic Republic assured once again that Cyprus and the Cyprus problem are the highest priority of Greek foreign policy and that Greece will always stand by Cyprus and the Cypriot Hellenism.

After the presentation of the credentials, Ms Sakellaropoulou met privately with Mr Avgoustidis in a very friendly and cordial atmosphere, where, in addition to bilateral issues, current regional developments were discussed. The President of the Hellenic Republic wished the new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Greece good strength and every success in his work, in the performance of which he will have her full support.
