The Fire Service for the three-day period from 06.00 on 28 January 2022 until 06.00 on 31 January 2022, responded to 64 calls for assistance, 27 fires, 31 special services and 6 false calls.
The Fire Service from 06.00 of 30 January 2022 to 06.00 of 31 January 2022 responded to 19 calls for assistance, 10 fires, 8 special services and one false call.
At 19.57 a call was received for a fire in a vehicle parked in an open area in Lakatameia. The Lakatameia Fire Station responded with 2 fire engines and the fire was brought under control at 20.10 hrs. The fire and heat caused extensive damage to the Rover (antique) vehicle. It is believed, following an investigation carried out in conjunction with the Police, that the fire was set maliciously by unknown persons who were hanging out in the area.
At 20.53 hours a call was received for a fire in a two-storey dwelling in a residential complex in Ayia Napa. The Famagusta Fire Station Sergeant Adamou Adamou with 2 fire engines responded and the fire was brought under control at 21.41 hrs. The fire was extinguished by the owner before the arrival of the Fire Brigade. An inspection and final extinguishing was carried out by the Fire Service. The fire destroyed a sofa on the porch of the home and extensively damaged small furniture inside the home, and the entire interior was also damaged by smoke. The owner was given first aid by the firefighting team and an ambulance was called to transfer him to Famagusta Hospital, as he inhaled smoke while trying to extinguish the fire. An investigation will follow into the causes of the fire, in cooperation with the Police, which at first sight appears to have been caused by smoke articles.
At 22.25 a call was received for a fire in a fireplace chimney of a ground floor residence in Dromolaxia. The Larnaca Fire Station of Lieutenant Andreas Papadopoulos with 2 fire engines responded and the fire was brought under control at 22.57. The fire extended to the wooden roof of the house. To extinguish it, the roof was partially demolished. The cause of the fire appears to be a defective chimney of the fireplace.
