The Fire Service, from 06:00 on 13 September 2023 until 06:00 on 14 September 2023, responded to 27 calls for assistance, 19 fires, six special services and two false calls.
At 12:38 p.m., a call was received for a fire in a stairwell in the basement of a private university building in Nicosia. The Police and the Fire Service responded with three fire engines from the Nicosia Fire Stations. The fire was in a stack of stationery and books and was brought under control at 13:01. The heat and smoke damaged the paint and electrical installation of the stairwell. Members of the Fire Department extinguished the fire and ventilated the area. At the time of the fire the building's security staff had evacuated the building prior to the arrival of the Fire Department and no one was in danger, however Fire Department members conducted an additional check for any trapped persons. After an investigation into the causes of the fire, which was carried out in cooperation with the Police, it was determined that the fire was due to arson.
At 19:53 a call was received for a fire in the kitchen of an apartment building in Limassol. The Police and the Fire Service responded with two fire engines from the Agios Nikolaos Fire Station. The fire was extinguished by the owner before the arrival of the Fire Service and no one was in danger. The fire and heat caused extensive damage to kitchen equipment, while smoke affected the entire apartment. An inspection and ventilation was carried out by members of the Fire Service. After an investigation into the causes of the fire, which was carried out in cooperation with the competent authorities, it was determined that the fire was caused by a short circuit.
At 00:48 a call was received for a fire in a vehicle, which was parked in a covered parking lot in the area of Aglantzia, in the district of Nicosia. The Police and the Fire Service responded with two fire engines from the Acropolis Fire Station of Sergeant Spyros Tantanti and the fire was brought under control at 01:03. The fire and heat caused extensive damage to the vehicle's interior. The causes of the fire will be investigated later today, in cooperation with the Police and the Electromechanical Service.
