The proceedings of the 4th Plenary Session of the Conference on the Future of Europe, in which MEPs Marina Nikolaou, Chrisis Pantelidis and Alexandra Attalidou are participating, continue today in Strasbourg.

In the context of the debates during the Plenary Session of the Conference, Ms Nikolaou participated in the debate on Migration, Mr Pantelidis on Digital Transformation and Ms Attalidou in the debate on Youth, Sport and Culture.

Ms Attalidou condemned the violation of children's rights in Ukraine as a result of the illegal Russian invasion of the country.

Ms Attalidou condemned the violation of children's rights in Ukraine as a result of the illegal Russian invasion of the country. Reaffirming the need for the European Union (EU) to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people, Ms Attalidou said that refugees, especially children and young people, must be allowed to continue their lives and education unhindered. In addition, she stressed that young Europeans need a strong Union based on European principles and values, protecting the rights of all citizens. Referring to the issue of education, Ms Attalidou stressed the importance of developing European education in a way that promotes critical thinking and communication.

During the debate on Digital Transformation, Mr Pantelidis pointed out that the Russian invasion of Ukraine has demonstrated the need for proactive EU action in all areas. Consequently, said Pantelidis, in the field of digital technology, a predominantly European transformation is necessary to make the EU truly competitive in the environment created by third countries such as the US, Russia and China. Digital transformation, Pantelidis stressed, must be people-centred and based on European principles and values, making digital technology accessible to all and ensuring that it serves the needs of citizens and protects them from manipulation and misinformation.

In her intervention during the debate on migration, Ms Nicolaou stressed the need to address the root causes of the ongoing refugee crisis and noted that the EU's readiness to provide protection to refugees from Ukraine is undoubtedly a positive step, but she criticised the EU's selective sensitivity to the refugee issue. The same attitude should be shown towards all refugees regardless of their origin, she said. The EU's negotiations with Turkey in the field of migration, Ms Nicolaou pointed out, must be terminated immediately. It is necessary to reform the European legislative framework on migration and asylum, as well as to establish a permanent resettlement mechanism on the basis of solidarity between EU Member States.
