The Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare announces that the first pilot Voluntary Relocation Programme for Unaccompanied Minors has been successfully completed.
Specifically, the Social Welfare Services of the State Ministry of Social Welfare with the Asylum Service of the State Ministry of Migration and International Protection and in cooperation with the German authorities, agreed on the voluntary relocation of twenty-five (25) unaccompanied minors.
As a result, yesterday, 25 July 2024, 25 unaccompanied minors departed from Cyprus with final destination Germany, accompanied by representatives of the International Organization for Migration.
The Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare assesses the Voluntary Resettlement Programme as a tool of paramount importance in the management of the large flows of unaccompanied minors recorded in the Republic of Cyprus, but also as a programme which contributes to ensuring the best interests of the minors themselves, their rights and their final rehabilitation.
Efforts to include a greater number of unaccompanied minors in this programme in cooperation with the Member States of the European Union will continue.
