What we are interested in is for the truth to shine and for the investigators to start work immediately on the case of Thanasis Nikolaou, President of the Republic Mr.Nikos Christodoulides said today.
In his remarks while attending the event for the Mother's Day in Nicosia, and in response to a journalist's remark that a mother, the mother of Thanasis Nikolaou, is waiting for answers about her son's death, the President of the Republic said: "The Government has proceeded with the appointment of independent investigators precisely to see why all these years, since 2005, for 19 years, any issues may not have been investigated."
This is a very serious issue, which from the Government's point of view we are approaching far from any communication approaches.
What we are interested in is for the truth to shine and for the investigators to start work immediately, because both Thanasis' mother and father, as well as Cypriot society, expect answers."
Referring to the Mother's Day, the President of the Republic said: "I am here to commemorate the Feast of the Mother of Many Children. I want to salute the very important work that the Association is doing, because it is our key partner in this effort, and we are here to work together so that we can address all the challenges.
The issue of under-fertility in our country is one of the biggest challenges.
The issue of under-fertility in our country is one of the biggest challenges. We are a country where today the birth rate is at 1.3% and we need at least 2.1% to replenish the population every 25 years. So, this means that as a State we have to do much more, precisely to face, on the one hand, the great challenge, but at the same time, to show with deeds and not just words that we understand and honour the Mother in practice."
