Health Minister Dr Poppy Kanari made statements on current affairs today at a press conference on the occasion of World Cancer Day.

Asked about the situation at the Athalassa Hospital, she noted that she has already visited the Athalassa Mental Health Hospital twice and that she has planned a third visit to the hospital, which will take place within the next week.

Solutions will be found in the near future, the Minister pointed out. As she explained, infrastructure will be created in Latsia, which will help decongest the situation."

Dr Kanari also said that the Ministry of Health aims to soon create a separate Clinic at the Limassol Hospital, which will help decongest the situation, while the new Athalassa Hospital Building will be inaugurated in April 2024. Within the Recovery and Resilience Plans, he added, OKYPY will complete this project and the situation will be much better.

Asked about the specialised/specialised management and monitoring of patients suffering from general forms of hepatopathies and the letter sent by journalist Stavros Kyprianou through his lawyer, the Minister noted that there is a draft memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Health and the specific centre in London. "There is no agreement. We have long since moved to set a meeting with the Centre in London to finalise agreements, find solutions and create infrastructure in a much-needed area such as hepatology," the Minister said.

"After the conclusion in early October of this meeting, we will announce the next steps for this infrastructure to be done," Dr Kanari concluded.
