The Council of Ministers today decided to develop a National Strategy and National Action Plan for the Third Age and Active Ageing.
As stated by the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Ms Marilena Evangelou, in this context the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare will coordinate the development of this Strategy, with the inter-ministerial participation of the relevant Ministries of Health, Education, Labour, Finance and a representative of the Presidency of the Republic, as well as with the participation of all organisations of the elderly, in close cooperation with the Third Age Body.
"This decision was taken at the highest level, demonstrating the importance that the Christodoulides Government attaches to issues related to the elderly", Ms Evangellou said.
The National Strategy will coordinate actions and policies related to quality living for older people, their inclusion in society, active and healthy ageing, lifelong learning, ensuring their rights, drawing on good practices from European and other countries as well as from our country, and clearly taking into account older people themselves: "It is our duty as a Government and as a State more broadly to provide high quality services, as well as all the facilities required not only for dignified living but also to provide opportunities for the elderly."
Also, the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare announced that the payment to the accounts of beneficiaries of the lump sum decided on 19 October 2023 by the Council of Ministers as part of the broader measures decided to address the inflationary trends and concerns an amount of €300 to Minimum Guaranteed Income (MGA) recipients receiving a rent/mortgage subsidy and €500 to MGA recipients with severe disabilities receiving a rent/mortgage subsidy.
