Issues related to housing policy and higher education are among the issues that will occupy today's meeting of the Council of Ministers at the Presidential Palace.

At the beginning of the meeting, President of the Republic Mr.Nicos Christodoulides, addressing the members of the House, said: "Among today's items, I highlight the discussion we will have on two issues related to housing policy, which is one of the biggest challenges we have to face, especially for our young people, following the first comprehensive housing strategy of the Republic of Cyprus that was announced in October and we started to implement.

Today we will approve the specific criteria for the projects implemented by the Central Entity for Equal Burden Sharing, following the discussion and the decisions we took in February, so that we have more beneficiaries to access funding with favourable criteria, for housing and not only, since it also concerns professional activity, studies, energy upgrading of houses, interest rate subsidies on housing, professional loans and others.

I consider this intervention particularly important, it will help a lot of people, especially young people.

In the same framework of our housing policy, today we will also approve the signing of a 108 million euro loan agreement from the European Investment Bank for the financing of the construction of student halls of the CUT in Limassol and Paphos. These are important interventions in relation to our housing policy.

Today we will also discuss and decide on the revision of the procedure for granting entry permits to prospective students from third countries.

On the one hand, specific criteria are introduced. These will apply for one year, so that we can evaluate them. We want to help our colleges, but at the same time [TO SET] certain strict provisions, so as not to affect in any way the migration issue, which is another big challenge that we are successfully tackling and this is shown by the results we have so far.

So, we will discuss some modifications within the framework of our higher education strategy - we discussed this yesterday in the special meeting we had - which will be announced in September. It is the product of cooperation between the Ministries of Education, Interior, Labour, Foreign Affairs and Finance.

These stand out from the issues we have to discuss today."
