The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr. Alexis Vafeadis, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Ms. Andreas Vyras visited today the Larnaca - Meneos road in the area of the wastewater treatment plant, where erosion is observed due to proximity to the coastal front. It is noted that the road is located in the protected area "Larnaca Salt Flats."
After the meeting, Mr. Vafeadis made statements to media representatives. We have this problem with erosion. We met today with all those responsible, with the Minister, the Mayor, with the officials of the Ministries, to see the damage that has been done to the road network here and the danger to the drivers who travel in this area, and to come up with ways in which we can improve the situation, to restore the road network to its original state, without putting an environmental burden on the area. The efforts are to work within the framework set by the Minister of Agriculture and the Department of Environment. That is my intention and that is the direction in which we will move."
Asked by a reporter if there are initial plans to deal with the erosion, the Minister said that there are studies and that consultation between the Department of Public Works and the Department of Environment will continue in order to come up with the best possible solution."
