[PIO] Statements by the Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Mr.Yannis Panagiotou on the timely payment of the statutory pension within one month

The timely payment of benefits, for which citizens are entitled by the Social Insurance Services, is a priority of the Governance Programme, in the context of the people-centred policy implemented by the Government.

To this end, the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance announces that the planning for the payment of the first payment of the statutory pension within one month of the date of reaching the retirement age.

Specifically, within 2023 all workers applying for retirement will start receiving a pension in the month immediately following the month of reaching the retirement age.

Specifically. [*]From the end of December 2023, workers who retire at the age of 63 (and constitute 70% of pensioners) will start receiving a pension one month after reaching the age of 63. [/LIST]

Hundreds of pensioners will benefit from the accelerated procedures within the next few weeks, and around 10,000 pensioners per year, so that no citizen will be left without an income in retirement.

It is noted that the applications submitted for the payment of statutory pension in 2021 were 10257, in 2022 were 11425, and in 2023 7861 applications have been submitted so far, while in 2022 the average processing time was between 5 and 6 months.

The computer system of the Social Insurance Services has been technologically upgraded to automatically use the existing information available internally to calculate the amount of pensions, thus enabling the first payment to be made on time.

Subsequently, upon completion of a detailed review of the application submitted, which may include additional information that needs to be taken into account, any discrepancy will be accounted for and reconciled retroactively through the payment of monthly pension amounts in the following period.

At the same time, the implementation of the government's plan for the timely payment of all benefits paid by the Social Insurance Services continues, with the acceleration of the procedures for the examination of claims submitted by citizens: Optimising the use of human resources, simplifying procedures, making use of technology and introducing innovations. It is mentioned that within the next few days the completion of the preparatory work, which began immediately after the new Government took office, is expected to be completed, for the overtime support of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance by staff of other state services during non-working hours for the examination of citizens' applications, involving the Social Insurance Services, the Department of Public Administration and Personnel and the Legal Service.
