The programme, actions and priorities of the Ministry of Health were presented today before the Parliamentary Committee on Health by the Minister of Health, Dr. Popi Kanari. The correction of the distortions that have been identified in the four years of operation of the GESY, the upgrading of the health services provided and the sustainability of the System.
We are determined, she said, to address any challenges within the framework of the Governance Programme of President Nicos Christodoulides and to provide solutions.

In the issues concerning the OAS, the necessary prioritization has been done, as noted. At the forefront of the challenges is the improvement of the image of the ICUs. "We have set an action plan to upgrade the ICUs, which are the backbone of public hospitals, with a target date of the end of June," Dr.

On the issue of serving patients from the pharmacies of public hospitals, Dr. Kanari stressed that as of 4/5/2023, the boxes from which they receive their medicines were reduced from three to two and payment by "vouchers" was implemented. Patients, she added, have the possibility to obtain in advance as many vouchers as they wish in order not to be inconvenienced every time they come to the nursing homes for the supply of medicines.
As for the Paediatric CICU, she pointed out that the difficulties that existed in staffing issues have been overcome and it now operates with six paediatricians. The recruitment of another paediatrician is expected soon.
With regard to the Ministry of Health, he said that a study is being promoted to reorganise it with modern structures in order to link it to the new strategic and supervisory role it is called upon to play, especially after the implementation of the GESY. He added that the construction of a new building for the General State Chemistry Department, in collaboration with the Department of Public Works, is also being promoted, so that the building is seismic resistant and in line with its ongoing obligations.
In the context of today's presentation before the Parliament, a reference was made, as noted by Dr. Kanari and the issues of the bills that are being promoted and urgent, such as those concerning Rehabilitation Centres, Ambulances in the criteria for Public and Private Hospitals, the National Centre for Clinical Documentation and University Clinics.
"Many bills are being promoted and I hope that we will accurately adhere to the timetables set in close and continuous cooperation with the Parliament and all stakeholders," he added.
The Parliamentary Health Committee of the House, the Minister concluded, is a pillar of support for all legislation promoted by the Ministry of Health aimed at upgrading the provision of services to our fellow citizens.
