"I look forward to today's discussions, during which a number of important issues are expected to be raised.
On Ukraine, we will host Minister Kuleba, who will brief us on recent, important developments in the country.
On the Middle East, I reiterate once again the need for maximum restraint and immediate de-escalation, as well as the need to take all necessary measures to achieve this de-escalation. At the same time, we must not forget the serious humanitarian situation in Gaza. In this context, our meeting with Sigrid Kaag is particularly useful. I will have the opportunity to reiterate Cyprus' full support for her terms of reference and her role.
Finally, regarding the working lunch with Turkish Foreign Minister Fidan, Turkey's role as a regional actor is recognised and this role is accompanied by specific commitments.
In Turkey's relationship with the European Union (EU) there are possibilities, which are linked to conditions.
There is a very well defined, clear and structured framework, which incorporates a number of conditionalities that have been decided at the highest level by our political leaders.
Within this framework, the Republic of Cyprus, the Cyprus problem, the EU itself are intrinsically linked. We see the possibility, we point out the context. The choice is in Turkey's hands."
In response to a question, Kobos said: "I expect a frank and open discussion on the issues first and foremost on which we disagree, and on the next steps.
The next steps, as I have just described them, have been defined at the highest political level. There is a clear framework and we will work with that in mind so that there can be constructive steps with a positive outcome, provided that the right decisions are taken on the other side as well."
In response to another question from a journalist, the Foreign Minister replied. Let us be cautious in our approach, but also in our expectations. Today is a very good opportunity to send the message of the European Union, of our Union, about the current situation. And this is a unified message that cannot include any concept, any notion of disconnection from the Cyprus problem and of course from the issues concerning the Republic of Cyprus."
