The "Amalthea" initiative will continue and will be strengthened in the coming period, said today the Government Spokesman Mr. Constantinos Letybiotis, who, at the same time, warmly congratulated Pafos FC for yesterday's Cup match.
In his statements to journalists, after the memorial service of the hero Andreas Polycarpou at Agia Marina Chrysochous, the Representative, referring to yesterday's final Cup match between Omonia and Pafos FC, said: "We congratulate the Pafos team for yesterday's match, for the Cup.
It was a celebration of Sport. Fans from both teams attended the Cup final and these are the kind of matches we want to see, matches that fans can enjoy and celebrate.
Yesterday Paphos was better, our joy is evident as Paphites, but what matters most is that we support healthy sport, and healthy fan support, as much as we can."
Asked about the progress of the Amalthea project, the Spokesman said: "It is a given that once the infrastructure that the US had planned - the US President himself had announced - has been completed, this will allow the 'Amalthea' initiative, the maritime humanitarian corridor, to move to the next stage. It will allow humanitarian aid to go with greater intensity and flow, which, after all, is what the civilian population in Gaza so desperately needs.
What we believe is extremely important is the international recognition of the importance and value of this initiative both on the part of the international community, but especially on the part of the United Nations for the leading role that Cyprus has played and the catalytic contribution of our country in this huge humanitarian crisis as it unfolds.
The Amalthea initiative will continue and will be strengthened in the coming period, because the needs that exist in Gaza are enormous."
