The President of the Republic, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, chaired a special meeting of the Council of Ministers at the Presidential Palace this afternoon to review the progress of the implementation of the Government's planning for 2024.

After the meeting, Deputy Minister to the President Mrs Irini Piki told reporters: "The Council of Ministers met today in a special session chaired by the President of the Republic Mr. Nikos Christodoulides and reviewed the progress of implementation of the 88 actions included in the annual programming for 2024.

According to the data presented before the Council of Ministers, 67% of the actions, 26 actions included in the annual programming have been completed and another 33 are in the process of implementation, according to the timetable set. For the remaining actions, which deviate from the initial timetable, actions for their timely implementation were discussed.

Some of the actions are pending before the House of Representatives for discussion and vote, while some are at the Legal Service for legislative review. The Government is in close cooperation with the Legal Service, as well as with the House of Representatives, and the specific actions have been prioritized in order to be completed in a timely manner.

The meeting also reviewed the status of implementation of other actions that arose during the year and were not included in the annual planning for 2024.

The overall assessment of the government's work for 2024 will be made by the President of the Republic in March 2025, just as it was done last year, with the completion of two years of government. Also, in January 2025, the President of the Republic will announce the annual planning for the following year."

"We promised accountability and we have to do it in practice and not in words," the President of the Republic said in his opening remarks before the Cabinet meeting."

The Deputy Minister added: "In the coming days we will have time to further analyse the actions. The Ministers themselves will let you know which actions they have implemented and to what extent."

In response to a question, Ms. Piki said that a Cabinet meeting had been held on April 29 on the same issue as today's, adding that today's was the third in a row. She also noted that "there will definitely be another one in the autumn. The goal is every two to three months to have this review at these special meetings, where an open discussion is held on all issues concerning each ministry."
