Cyprus and Dubai can cooperate in various fields related to high technology, Minister of State for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Kyriakos Kokkinos said today. Kokkinos, who is accompanying the President during his visit to the UAE, said that "I have today concluded a meeting with the Minister of State for Industry and High Technologies with whom we have exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between the two countries. We have identified areas of cooperation and I have also extended a formal invitation to him to come to Cyprus to see what is next, after proper preparation.

On Thursday we will sign a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Cybersecurity Council on cooperation on issues related to cybersecurity, cyber attacks.

Dubai is a country that has advanced very much in high technologies, such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, blockchain. I think for us Dubai is a geography of interest because it is our access to the east, but also for Dubai itself, as the Deputy Minister has told me today in the meeting we had, for them Cyprus is the country for their access to Europe. So these meetings are both important and useful."

When asked, he said that "Dubai has made a lot of progress in the issues especially in artificial intelligence and other technologies that have to do with agri-technology management, climate change and climate change supporting technologies, and there are only positive things that can come out of these developments."

Asked if results are beginning to be seen in the cooperation through EXPO, the Deputy Minister said that "no, we will have to see the results as we go along. It is not something so interactive once you have a presence. After all, EXPO is not about doing trade so much as it is about promoting your country as a geography that has a presence in the Eastern Mediterranean that is worth being on the radar of other countries' business activities."
