Following yesterday's end of the strike measures at the Port of Larnaca, meetings were held today between the Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Mr. Yiannis Panayiotou met with the employers and trade unions, where it was agreed that they would participate constructively in the dialogue planned for the resolution of the disputes and the implementation of the agreements, while avoiding any confrontations.
Following the conclusion of the meetings, the Minister stated the following:
"The volatility of the external environment makes it necessary to safeguard stability within the country through the cooperation of the social partners, employers and employees.
Ports are a key sector of the Cypriot economy, for which it is additionally important to maintain normality through the good cooperation of all parties.
I note with satisfaction the positive willingness of both sides to cooperate, in accordance with the provisions of the Code of Industrial Relations, in the direction of the public interest for the protection of industrial peace.
It has been agreed to engage constructively in the planned dialogue, which will continue with the contribution of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, in order to resolve the differences and implement what has been agreed, avoiding any confrontation.
I am optimistic that the outcome of this process will be positive and the contribution of this development will be mutually beneficial for all."
