The High Level Conference Call has just ended. The Secretary of State of the United States of America (USA), the Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Foreign Minister of the United Kingdom, and the State Secretary of Qatar participated. The European Commission was joined by the Commissioner for Crisis Management and the United Nations (UN) Humanitarian Aid and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza.

There is a joint statement to this effect, which will be distributed to you shortly.

During the teleconference, the commitment of all participants to continue the engagement of our countries, but also of the European Commission, and to activate the role of UN Resident Coordinator Ms Kaag in this major effort was reaffirmed.

We are at a stage of intensive processes aimed at systematizing the continued delivery of humanitarian assistance through the now activated Amalthea Plan.

In this context, the next steps can be summarised as follows.

Secondly, a meeting will take place next week in Cyprus (21/3/2024), at the level of coordinators from all States and organisations involved. The participation will go beyond the current teleconference.

Thirdly, the process of preparing a second ship with additional humanitarian aid has already started. As you know, the first ship sailed yesterday from the port of Larnaca.

In conclusion, I would like to mention that we have repeatedly made it absolutely clear that the Cyprus initiative is an additional complementary effort to provide humanitarian assistance to Gaza. It complements existing and future land crossings, as well as other crossings. It is not in competition but complementary.

The common goal is to get humanitarian aid to the people who need it as quickly as possible. The joint effort will continue.
