[PIO] Slovak Foreign Minister paid an official visit to Cyprus

Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos today received the Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanár, who paid an official visit to Cyprus at the invitation of Mr.

After the signing of the visitors' book, the two Ministers had a private meeting, followed by extended consultations with the participation of delegations of the two Ministries. During the consultations, bilateral relations, the Cyprus problem, as well as European and international current affairs were discussed.

In his statements to journalists after the consultations, the Foreign Minister welcomed Mr Blanár to Nicosia and referred to the symbolic importance of the date as Europe Day. Kobos noted that the meeting discussed bilateral relations and their improvement in areas such as trade, tourism, defence, education and innovation. The commitment to resume negotiations on the Cyprus problem, based on the agreed United Nations (UN) framework for a bizonal bicommunal federation with political equality, was also stressed. Issues of European and regional interest were also discussed, including developments in Ukraine and the Middle East.

In turn, Mr Blanár thanked Mr Kombo for his hospitality and referred at length to the similarities and common struggles between Cyprus and Slovakia. He also praised the efforts of the Cyprus Government to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza through the maritime humanitarian corridor.
