In the framework of his two-day working visit (4-5 June) to Egypt, Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos signed today with his Egyptian counterpart Mr. Sameh Shoukry signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments of the Republic of Cyprus and the Arab Republic of Egypt for the employment of Egyptian citizens in Cyprus. The aim of the MoU is to facilitate and regulate the entry and residence of Egyptian workers who come to Cyprus for employment in various sectors, depending on the needs of the market and the Government's policy in this regard.
With the signing of the MoU today, the institutional possibility of access to the labour market by Egyptian citizens is now offered in a structured, gradual and controlled manner.
The conclusion of the Memorandum was completed within four months, which underlines the political will of the Foreign Ministries of the two countries to strengthen bilateral cooperation and mutually beneficial impact in the economic sector.
A Joint Committee under the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, which the Foreign Ministry thanks for its excellent cooperation, will oversee the implementation of the Memorandum, ensuring its effectiveness and proposing amendments where necessary. In this context, it is noted that the first year will serve as a pilot phase to evaluate the procedures and implementation of the Memorandum.
The Memorandum of Understanding includes provisions concerning social security, the transfer of earnings and the confidentiality of the information exchanged.
