METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Purpose
The Services Business Cycle Index monitors the short-term turnover of services in the services sector. developments concerning the turnover of enterprises active in the accommodation and food service activities (NACE I), information and communication activities (NACE J), professional, scientific and technical activities (NACE M) and administrative and support service activities (NACE N).
Data collection
The survey is a sample survey covering enterprises active in the above sectors. It is conducted by telephone, fax and e-mail. Data are collected on a quarterly basis.
Method of calculation
The Index is produced for the various branches of the Economic Activities Classification System (NACE Rev. 2) that make up the Services sectors. It has a base year of 2015, i.e. it shows the change in the turnover of enterprises for the reference period compared to the average of 2015. In the base year, the average of the quarterly indicators is 100. The coefficients used for the weighting are derived from the total sales of enterprises in the base year (2015) and reflect the turnover of each industry in relation to the sector as a whole.
The compilation of the Turnover in Services Index is carried out in the context of the implementation of Regulation (EU) 2019/2152 on European business statistics.
