It is hereby announced that, on 17 August 2024, at 20:45, the Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (RSRC) activated the National Plan E-D Nearchos in order to locate a missing person who went down from the Panama-flagged merchant ship "NIVIN", while it was sailing at a distance of 100 nm west of Paphos, within the E-D area of responsibility of the Republic of Cyprus (FIR Nicosia).
For the operation a helicopter of the 460MED, the Air Command of the General Staff of the National Guard (GEF), with a specialized nurse of the Ambulance Service, as well as the ship itself, from which the missing sailor fell into the sea, were mobilized.
After almost five hours of searching, the missing person was located and recovered alive from the merchant ship "NIVIN".
