The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the initiative of the General Secretariat for European Affairs, signed in December 2021 a Memorandum of Understanding with the College of Europe to provide one scholarship per year to Cypriot citizens to study at this institution of higher education.

The College of Europe was founded in 1949. Since 1992 it has been housed on two university campuses, in Bruges (Belgium) and Natolin (Poland). It offers a wide choice of postgraduate programmes focusing on European Union (EU) issues, providing postgraduate students with the necessary skills to live and work in the EU and more generally in a European and international environment.

Based on the provisions of the said Memorandum, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs grants for the academic year 2024-2025 one (1) scholarship for study at the university premises in Bruges in the amount of twenty-nine thousand euros (€29,000), or one (1) scholarship for study at the university premises in Natolin in the amount of twenty-seven thousand euros (€27,000). The scholarship covers tuition and accommodation.

Applications must be completed and submitted online via the College website. The deadline for submission of applications is 16 January 2024.

As regards the selection procedure, it is noted that the selection of candidates is carried out in a first stage by the College of Europe and then the candidates are examined by the National Selection Board of the Republic of Cyprus, which has been established jointly with the College of Europe, on the basis of the provisions of the relevant Memorandum of Understanding.
