Beaches are one of the main comparative advantages of Cyprus as a tourist destination and are among the most popular beaches in Europe. The Ministry of Tourism is implementing a series of actions for the sustainable development of beaches. It is the National Coordinator of the Blue Flag Programme and also supports the "Sand and Sea plastic free" programme for the reduction of plastics on beaches.

In the framework of the implementation of the Tourism Strategy 2030, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism announces the launch of applications under the Encouragement of Projects for the Qualitative and Aesthetic Upgrading of Beaches for 2024. The beneficiaries of this Plan are Local Authorities (Municipalities and Community Councils). The Project includes as eligible expenditure the purchase of equipment such as beach umbrellas and sunbeds, walkways, cleaning bins and infrastructure works such as sanitary facilities and changing rooms, as well as infrastructure for people with disabilities.

The deadline for submitting applications is 29 March 2024. Applications can be submitted online at sxedioparalion@visitcyprus.com. The Plan and the application form are posted on the website of the Ministry of Tourism.
