Regarding today's reports concerning the announcement of the Cyprus Consumers Association on the Decree regulating fixed fares in road transport, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works wishes to clarify the following:

The fixed fares were set for a number of routes to and from Larnaca and Paphos airports. The purpose of setting the fixed fare for these routes is to solve the long-standing problem of providing adequate information to visitors/tourists in Cyprus and the travelling public in general. The setting of fixed fares is expected to give reliability to taxi transport, since the travelling public will know in advance the exact amount they will pay, regardless of the route the driver will follow, the traffic on the road network and the number of luggage they will carry.

In particular, the aim of this regulation is to avoid any overcharging for routes to and from airports, a practice which is applied in many other European countries.

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works regularly evaluates these regulations and takes into account suggestions such as those of the Cyprus Consumers' Association for any regulations in the taxi sector in order to make any adjustments.
