[/P]

On the occasion of the recent announcement of the Movement of Ecologists - Citizens' Co-operation, as well as recent reports in various media, the Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment wishes to state the following:

a) (P.A./P.A.); "`[P.A./P.A.].Unfortunately, it is a fact that pollution of various areas, especially outside the State Forests, is being observed on a daily basis. This pollution is caused by various actions of our unscrupulous fellow citizens who deposit waste materials, rubbish and all kinds of garbage in the natural environment. This is the problem, this is "the root of evil" and therefore we should not be judged by the existence of garbage but by our response to its collection. We also mention that the Municipality of Pegeia actively participated in the work of cleaning and restoration of the area.

c) Every day we are informed by citizens about the existence of such areas and we immediately proceed to clean the areas which are within the limits of our Department's responsibility, or in case they are located in other areas, we inform the competent authorities or offer them the necessary assistance and guidance.

d) Although as a Forestry Department we undertake daily patrols within the state forests, it is impossible to identify all areas which are polluted. Therefore, we request that the public, when they identify areas within State Forests where trash, trash and/or other waste materials have been deposited or have been littered or damaged in any way, to immediately notify the nearest forestry station or telephone 1407.

[E]

e) It is reminded that any person who disposes of any material for any purpose within the State Forest is guilty of an offence and, on conviction, shall be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one (1) year or a fine not exceeding five thousand euros (€5.000,00) or to both (2) of these penalties.
