Yesterday, Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 15:20, the Larnaca Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (LRCRC) received a report of a person in distress at the location of Thalassine Caves (Palathkia), in Kavo Greko, in adverse weather conditions.
The KSEED immediately mobilized a speedboat of the Port and Maritime Police, a jet ski type speedboat of the Famagusta District Administration and an ambulance of the Ambulance Service of the State Health Services Organisation (SHSO).
The 27 year old injured person was rescued by the lifeguards of the Famagusta District Administration. He was then picked up by the speedboat of the Port and Maritime Police and transferred to Ayia Napa Marina, from where he was taken by ambulance to Famagusta General Hospital for medical treatment.
On the occasion of the above incident, the KSEED again reminds the public that approaching and diving at the site of the sea caves at Cape Greco is strictly prohibited, since according to an inspection by the Geological Survey Department the ground has been deemed dangerous due to increased erosion.
