During yesterday's (12.03.24) regular briefing of the UN international media, the Representative of the Secretary-General, Mr. Stéphane Dujarric said that the UN Senior Humanitarian Coordinator and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza Ms. Sigrid Kaag and the Executive Director of the UN Office for Programme Services (UNOPS) Mr. Jorge Moreira da Silva jointly welcomed the opening of a sea corridor for the provision of additional humanitarian assistance by sea to Gaza. He added, inter alia, that they commended the leadership of Cyprus and the support offered by the European Commission, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United States and others.
He also noted that a joint technical team between UNOPS and Ms. Sigrid Kaag is currently in Cyprus, working with the Cypriot authorities and partners, in line with the new UN Gaza 2720 (2023) mechanism adopted by the Security Council.
