[PIO] Renewal of vehicle registration permits for the year 2024

The Road Transport Department (TOM) of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announces the following in relation to the renewal of vehicle registration permits for the year 2024:

1. Registration permits for the year 2024 will be renewed from Thursday 4.1.2024.
2. The last day of renewal will be Monday 11.3.2024 at 24:00 (midnight).
3. Marketing authorisations may be renewed for a period of three, six, nine and twelve months.
4. Licences will be renewed until midnight on Monday 11.3.2024 at no charge. For renewals made after Monday 11.3.2024, the sum of EUR 10 and an amount equal to ten per cent (10%) of the registration fee corresponding to the amount due for the current year shall be charged as a surcharge.
5. For the renewal of the licence there must be:

TOM advises the public to renew their vehicle's registration in good time and, in any case, not to wait until the last few days in order to avoid possible overloading of the system, which may cause inconvenience.

It is recalled that those who had renewed their vehicle registration for the year 2023 but do not intend to renew it for the year 2024 should submit to the TOM a notice of immobilization of the vehicle. Immobilisation can also be done online at the TOM website. Otherwise, the obligation to pay the amount corresponding to the registration fee continues to exist.

Vehicles for which the registration permit for the year 2023 has not been renewed and which have not been registered as immobilised will be deleted from the TOM register if the amount due for the year 2023 is not paid and the registration permit for 2024 is renewed by midnight on Monday 11.3.2024.

If the vehicle is destroyed, a vehicle registration cancellation application (form TOM 98A) accompanied by a "Certificate of Destruction" issued by a licensed vehicle waste treatment facility must be submitted to the TOM to relieve the vehicle owner of the obligation to pay registration fees from the date of destruction of the vehicle.

Registration permits can be renewed throughout the year online, at Citizen Service Centres, District Offices of the Department of Postal Services and District Offices of the TOM.

No notifications will be sent to vehicle owners for the renewal of registration permits.
