The unified housing policy announced by the Christodoulides Government last October is being put into practice, following the signing yesterday of the first agreement on the use of the revised urban incentives, between the Cyprus Land Development Agency (LDA), as the executive arm of the housing projects, and Evamek Development Ltd (a member of the Evangelou & Frantzis group of companies).

The company intends to apply for planning permission for development in the municipal district of Ipsona, West Limassol Municipality, using the planning incentive of securing an additional building factor of 25% of the permitted one. The residential units resulting from the utilization of the additional building factor will be made available to the beneficiaries of the CMOA at an affordable sales price to be determined by the Agency.

In the near future it is expected that the examination of the applications submitted by other contracting companies will be completed and respective agreements will be signed for the utilization of the urban planning incentives and the "Built to Rent" Plan.

The central objective of the State's new housing policy, which for the first time was designed in a comprehensive, realistic manner and with a targeted human-centred orientation, is to alleviate the housing problem and strengthen the welfare state. The housing plans and measures that have been announced and started to be implemented focus on increasing the housing stock and producing affordable housing, with the aim of meeting the housing needs mainly of young people and young families, as well as socio-economically vulnerable groups of the population.

At the same time, by increasing the number of housing units and making them available at affordable sales or rental prices, the Ministry of Interior seeks to create conditions of price decompression in the market, which will consequently substantially reduce the problem of citizens' access to affordable housing options.
