The Department of Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that from 9 August 2024 to 13 October 2024 a draft of the following Regulations is open for public consultation:
- The Waste (Management of Fishing Gear Waste) Regulations.
The new Regulations relate to the management of fishing gear waste containing plastic material in accordance with Article 36T of the Waste Act, in the context of reducing the impact of certain plastic products on the environment.
According to the principle of "Extended Producer Responsibility", the liable producers are those who place fishing gear products containing plastic material on the market, i.e. producers and importers. The Regulations will require obligated producers to set up collective waste management systems for the waste from these products.
The Draft Regulations are open for public consultation on the online platform the-Consultation.
Comments on the draft can be submitted until 13 October 2024 either via the platform the-Consultation, or electronically at: director@environment.moa.gov.cy, ngeorgiou@environment.moa.gov.cy, as well as in writing by fax to 22774945 or by post to the Department of the Environment, 1498, Nicosia.
