A three-day event of visits of children to their parents in prison, organized by the Prisons Department on the occasion of the International Children's Day, was a great success. These events are an excellent opportunity for prisoners to deepen their bonds with their children, but also to strengthen their role as parents.
During the three-day event, 10-12 June 2024, the Prison premises were transformed to host a series of activities aimed at bringing joy and creative moments to the children of prisoners. These included games, board games, inflatables, activities and face painting, providing a carefree and joyful atmosphere. It is noted that the events took place in an enclosed air-conditioned area inside the Prison, while free food and gifts were offered to all the children.
The participation of the children was unprecedented, with the prisoners, male and female, lovingly embracing this initiative. The interaction and joint activities between the children and their incarcerated parents strengthen family ties and offer prisoners the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with their children.
The importance of these events is invaluable, as they contribute significantly to the rehabilitation of prisoners and their social reintegration. Through improved family relationships, prisoners gain stronger motivation for positive change and better adaptation to society upon release.
The Management and staff of the Prison Department are committed to continuing to provide prisoners with opportunities to strengthen their relationships with their children and to support their role as parents. It is also committed to organizing and supporting actions that promote the human dimension of prison policy.
