The Parliamentary Committee on Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance met today, Tuesday, 15 February 2022, and discussed the following issues:
1.The Paternity Protection (Amendment) Law of 2021.

The Committee continued the debate, behind closed doors, in relation to the above-mentioned legislative proposals, the purpose of which is to amend the existing legislative framework in order to extend the period of time within which the right to paternity leave and paternity allowance may be exercised. In the course of the discussion, an exchange of views took place among the members of the Committee and decisions were taken as to the procedure to be followed in connection with the further consideration of the legislative proposals.
3. The operation of the Special Fund of the Centre for Vocational Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities.
(Examination of its own motion on the recommendation of the Parliamentary Committee on Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance)

The Committee began discussion of the above-registered matter under the ex officio procedure, during which it was informed of the actions and projects financed by the Special Fund of the Centre for Vocational Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities. The Commission also discussed the problems encountered by the Special Fund of the Centre for the Vocational Rehabilitation of People with Disabilities in the effective performance of the role entrusted to it. It also discussed the need to increase the funds available in the Fund's annual budget to support the activities it undertakes. It was decided that the discussion on this matter would be continued at the next meeting of the Committee to be scheduled at an appropriate time.
4.The Establishment of the State Department of Social Welfare and Related Matters (Amendment) Act, 2022.

The Committee was positioned, behind closed doors, on the provisions of the above bill, the purpose of which is to amend the Law on the Establishment of the State Ministry of Social Welfare and Related Matters in order to achieve the full implementation of the Cabinet's decision to transfer, as of January 1, 2022, the power to examine benefits, under the relevant legislation on benefits from the Ministry of Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance to the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare, as well as to complete the existing legislative framework for the transfer, at a later stage, of the Department for Social Integration of Persons with Disabilities from the Ministry of Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance to the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare. The Committee decided to refer the bill to the plenary session of the House on a date to be determined during the session, after the consultation stage on amendments that may be tabled by members of the House.
5.The Law on the Renaming of the Ministry of Labour, Welfare and Social Security of 2022.

The Commission was positioned, behind closed doors, in relation to the provisions of the above bill, the purpose of which is to rename the Ministry of Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance as the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance, due to the creation of the State Ministry of Social Welfare, which is responsible for social welfare issues. The Committee decided to refer the above bill to the plenary session of the House on a date set during the session, after the consultation stage on amendments that may be tabled by Members of the House.
