The Parliamentary Committee on Institutions, Values and Governance Commissioner met today, Wednesday, 2 February 2022, and discussed the following issues:

The Committee, in the presence of representatives of the relevant state agencies and stakeholders, completed the discussion of the above bill, the purpose of which is to define the framework that will regulate the contacts of persons interested in being involved in the public decision-making process on matters falling within the scope of the executive or legislative power with officials or members of the state service and/or the wider public sector who, by virtue of their position, play a decisive role in shaping the final outcome of these procedures. The Commission decided to forward the bill for a vote at the plenary session of the House on 10 February 2022.

2. The possible violation of the Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus by decisions of public universities according to which leave without pay is granted to members of their staff when they assume public office

The Committee continued the discussion of the above matter, in the presence of representatives of the relevant government departments and stakeholders, examining the decision of the University of Cyprus to grant leave without pay to a member of its academic staff who assumed public office in 2019. During the discussion, the Committee acknowledged the need to study the existing relevant legislative framework.
