The Parliamentary Committee on Education and Culture held an extraordinary meeting today, Monday, 21st February 2022, and discussed the following issues:
1.Briefing of the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Culture on the operation of schools and possible problems arising after the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

2.Update on the results of the quarterly examinations (Q1), which were implemented this year for the first time across the entire high school cycle, and on the problems encountered by the implementation of mid-term examinations - Full documentation of the objectives that were set and achieved and those that were not achieved by the implementation of this institution.

The Commission held an extraordinary meeting in the presence of the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth and representatives of the same Ministry, the Minister of Health and representatives of the same Ministry, as well as representatives of the Office of the Commissioner for the Protection of Children's Rights, the Education Service, the teachers' trade unions, the Coordinating Committee of School Boards, parents' and pupils' organisations and the Children's Initiative, was informed about the operation of schools and the possible problems arising after the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as about the results of the quarterly examinations, which were applied for the first time this year.
In particular, the discussion focused on the implementation of the "test to stay in schools", on which both the Minister of Health and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth stressed that it has been successfully implemented and that its implementation to date has helped to keep schools open and safe. Further, the same officials stressed that it is their intention to continue to consult with teachers' and parents' organisations to resolve the problems that have arisen.
With regard to the discussion on the evaluation of the institution of quarterly examinations, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth informed the Committee that this will be done when the process of collecting results is completed.
The Committee decided to continue the discussion of this matter at a future meeting.
3.The University of Cyprus Budget Law of 2022.

The Committee, having completed the discussion of the above bill, the purpose of which is to legally approve the budget of the University of Cyprus for the year 2022, which is balanced and provides for expenditures of €163.640.000 and income of the same amount, decided to refer it to the plenary of the House.

The Committee, having completed the discussion of the above bill, the purpose of which is to legally approve the budget of the Cyprus University of Technology for the year 2022, which is balanced and provides for expenditures of €73,937,954 and revenues of the same amount, decided to refer it to the plenary of the body.
