The Cyprus Pedagogical Institute of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (MPAN) is organizing a Training Program for expatriate teachers from the Community Schools of the Archdiocese of the United States of America, which will run from 9 to 19 July 2024. The group includes 13 expatriate teachers. This programme is an offer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Hellenism of the Diaspora, in cooperation with the Archdiocese of America.

The main objective of the programme is to help teachers to systematically deepen their knowledge of the rules of the Greek language and to acquire more knowledge and skills in teaching Greek as a second/foreign language or as a language of cultural heritage. The programme of the seminars is complemented with visits to archaeological and historical sites, in an effort to give the participants an experiential knowledge and experience of the island.

On Tuesday, 9 July, the group of expatriate teachers met with the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Ms Athina Michaelidou. The Minister, after welcoming the expatriate teachers, stressed that the Cypriot state, and in particular the Ministry of Education, offers, apart from this programme, training programmes for teachers who teach in schools in the United Kingdom, as well as for teachers from European Union and Black Sea countries, in order to meet the increased needs and interest in learning the Greek language and culture.

It is also noted that in the framework of this Programme, meetings will also be held for expatriate teachers with the Archbishop of Cyprus, Mr. Archbishop of Cyprus. George, as well as with the First Lady Mrs. Philippa Karsera Christodoulides.
